A Place for Your Family, Too

The drive from Cleveland or Akron isn't nothing. When you want to stay close, our Briar campus has cottages and apartments available for visiting families — a quiet place to rest, a real kitchen, and a five-minute walk to your loved one's room.

Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Being nearby for the small moments — the first sip of water without help, the first afternoon off the vent — matters more than the milestones the chart records.

Is the Drive Worth It?

It's the question every family asks. The closest facility isn't always the right one — especially for ventilator and complex respiratory care, where outcomes vary widely between programs.

5-Star
CMS Overall Rating

Briar is in the top tier of skilled nursing facilities nationally — a designation only a fraction of facilities earn.

7.1%
30-Day Readmission Rate

Roughly half the national skilled-nursing average — meaning your loved one is far less likely to bounce back to the hospital.

What to Expect

Referral & Admission

Your hospital case manager or physician refers your loved one to Briar. Our team reviews the clinical information, verifies insurance, and confirms a care plan — often within the same day.

Active Treatment

Our respiratory therapists work with your loved one daily. The pulmonologist oversees the weaning plan. You'll receive regular updates and are always welcome to participate in care discussions.

Recovery & Next Steps

As respiratory function improves, we plan the next chapter together — whether that's stepping down to skilled nursing, assisted living, or going home. The transition happens on our campus with the team your loved one already knows.

Questions Families Ask Most

How long does ventilator weaning take?
It depends on the underlying condition and time on the ventilator. Our team uses progressive weaning protocols tailored to each person. Some wean within weeks; others need longer. The pulmonologist adjusts care throughout — you'll always know where things stand.
Can we visit and be involved in care?
Absolutely. Families are included in care plan discussions and progress updates. We believe recovery is better when loved ones are part of the process. Visiting hours are generous, and our team is always available to answer questions.
What happens after respiratory care?
Briar offers skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent cottages all on one campus. As your loved one improves, they can transition to the next level of care without leaving the community or starting over with a new team.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept Medicare, Medicaid (Ohio), MyCare Ohio, VA Benefits, Aetna, Anthem BCBS, United Healthcare, and ACAP/Buckeye. Our admissions team verifies benefits and handles authorization before admission. If you don't see your plan, call 440-632-5241 and we'll check.
