The Benefit Many Surviving Spouses Never Hear About
If your spouse served during a period of war, you may qualify for a VA pension with Aid and Attendance, even after your spouse has passed away. Aid and Attendance provides an added monthly payment for individuals who need assistance with everyday activities like bathing, dressing, meal preparation, or managing medication.
This monthly benefit can directly help cover the cost of assisted living or skilled nursing care. Yet, many widows and widowers never apply simply because no one ever told them they might be eligible.
It Isn't Only for the Wealthy or the Struggling
Families often count themselves out for the wrong reasons. Some assume they earn too much; others worry they have too few assets to bother applying. In general, the primary home you live in, your vehicle, and personal belongings do not count against you when the VA evaluates net worth and eligibility.

If you served in the Armed Forces, you earned benefits designed to support your health and long-term care needs today. Bring your questions to the event. Medicare's annual open enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, and our community evening falls the night before open enrollment begins. What your plan covers, copays, pharmacy formularies, and provider networks can shift annually. This evening gives you an objective forum to evaluate your coverage options before you have to make decisions, not after.
